Fertility Enhancing Laparoscopic and Hysteroscopic Surgeries

Laparoscopy is the surgical method for direct visualization of abdominal cavity and hysteroscopy of uterine cavity. They both are extremely valuable tools in assessing the cause for difficulty in conception. At the same time, they are both the methods of choice for treatment of a number of pathologies which hamper the fertility chances. Laparoscopy is very helpful in detection and managing the infertility conditions.

When does a doctor recommends laparoscopy and hysteroscopic procedure for infertility?

When infertility is diagnosed, doctor initially treats it with other methods. If needed the patient is recommended to go for laparoscopic or hysteroscopic procedures. Here are some conditions under which doctor will suggest you to undergo surgical method.

If doctor establishes an ectopic pregnancy. In this type of condition, the fetus develops outside the uterus, typically in the fallopian tubes. It is thus considered as the fatal condition.
If doctor detects Pelvic inflammatory disease. This is the infection of the reproductive organs in women.
If doctor diagnoses endometriosis.
If patient feels pain during sexual intercourse.
If patient experiences severe pain or cramps during menstrual cycle.

Laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgeries are also recommended for the patient having severe conditions such as:

If the patient is suffering from PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)

If there is a fibroid in uterus causing blocking or severe pain in fallopian tubes.

If the patient is suffering from ovarian cysts.

If fallopian tubes are blocked.

Before laparoscopic or hysteroscopic procedures the patient is suggested to get admitted before the surgery. She will be told not to eat for atleast 8 to 10 hours before the surgery. Small incisions are made in the abdominal region and laparoscope or hysteroscope is inserted inside the pelvic organs. Doctor will carefully look for the fibroids, cysts, scar tissue or endometrial deposits inside the pelvic region.

The patient is discharged on the same day of the surgery and is suggested to take rest for atleast 2-3 days.

In case a tissue, cyst or fibroid is extracted during laparoscopic or hysteroscopic procedures, it goes to the further tests. Depending upon the condition is normal or abnormal further treatment will be suggested by doctor.
