LASER ASSISTED HATCHING

LASER ASSISTED HATCHING

The Laser technology is a revolutionary in medical science. It is the most advanced, precise and risk free technique used to treat lots of complex diseases. Laser technique is also helpful to cure various infertility diseases. Laser Assisted Hatching (LAH) is a very effective and modern technique which helps embryos to attach to the womb of the woman. Laser Assisted Hatching is an assisted reproductive technology which is performed along with conventional IVF treatment.

We have an advanced Laser Assisted Hatching technique as well as we provide state of the art Assisted Reproductive care to every infertile individual or couple. Our IVF center in Powai, provides modern, effective and result oriented Invitro Fertilization (IVF) treatments to infertile patients. Dr. Rita Modi an Infertility specialist in Powai, has achieved commendable expertise in treating infertility, recurrent miscarriage and fertility preservation.

What is Laser Assisted Hatching (LAH)

  • During IVF treatment, fertilization takes place in the lab. But in IVF treatment fertilized embryo does not guarantee a pregnancy. The embryo transferred has to implant itself into the endometrium and stick for pregnancy to occur but around 85% of embryos transferred do not stick due to the improper hatching of embryos.
  • In such case, Laser Assisted Hatching procedure is very beneficial for proper hatching of embryos.
  • Laser Assisted Hatching prevents hurdles during hatching and improves the chances of embryo implantation. In this way, LAH increases the pregnancy success rate.
  • In Laser Assisted Hatching (LAH) procedure, a specialized Laser is used to breach the zona pellucid. LAH allows more control on the size of hole created as compared to other hatching procedures.

Laser Assisted Hatching (LAH) is useful for the patients including

  • Women who have failed previous IVF/ICSI cycles.
  • Women who have poor embryo quality.
  • Women who are older than 37 years of age hence produce eggs with a harder Zona Pellucida.
  • Women who have a high Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) level.

Procedure of Laser Assisted Hatching (LAH)

  • In Laser Assisted Hatching (LAH) procedure, Zona Pellucida is ruptured by using a targeted microscopic laser.
  • An acidified liquid is used to the shell for an opening.
  • The application of proteolytic enzymes that the embryo normally produces to naturally break down tissue, in order to thin the zona pellucida.

Risk in Laser Assisted Hatching

  • Assisted Hatching procedure increases the risk of embryo damage and a decreases chance of embryo viability.
  • Assisted Hatching is also causes the risk of identical twins which carries increased health risks for mother and her twins.
  • There are various assisted hatching procedure like mechanical and chemical but Laser Assisted Hatching (LAH) is the most sophisticated procedure. LAH method does not have any major side effects or risks.
  • Laser Assisted Hatching is the safest, successful and risk free procedure as compared to other hatching procedures.

Laser Assisted Hatching (LAH) is not suitable for all patients. Doctor never performs LAH procedure for every patient. Couple should consult the doctor before undergoing LAH procedure. LAH is added with in vitro fertilization (IVF) and is often recommended after two or more failed IVF attempts.
